Descripción
New Systemic ideas from the Italian Mental Health Movement consists of six papers written by a renowned group of Italian family therapists, who are recognized for their pioneering work in the delivery of mental health services in community settings. As a whole, the book clearly describes the theoretical underpinning for their work which is based on the most advanced thinking in the systemic field. It then moves on to illustrate the ways their thinking has been used to solve seemingly insoluble problems, such as "how to create a coherent treatment plan with approaches which are theoretically opposed to each other?" and "how to avoid telling patients what they should do, while at the same time supporting their own efforts to change?" The authors discuss the problems of working in large institutions and the struggle of the worker to retain a systemic view while being part of the system; and there is a helpful chapter on the systemic understanding of "burnout". The book concludes with a discussion by the editors. - from Amzon
